Each season of the year has its own charm, with a touch of freshness brought on by the climate of the nearby hills and mountains.
Be it summer or winter, the Chapada Dimantina is always beautiful. Each season is special and varied.
In the summer the refreshing rains cool down the hot tropical days and fill the rivers with water turning everything green and making the inumerous options for taking a dip in the river more refreshing. This is a time of the year when the region receives more tourists, hence making it easy to make new friends and share your experiences.
In the fall, the temperatures begin to fall a little and the rains to receed. It is a perfect time for those who prefer to take long hikes around the park and for those who like the heat turned down a little. This is the time of year with lss visitation and therefore you will find the tourist attractions more private.
The Chapada Diamantina is in the heart of tropical Bahia and the hot hinterland of the Northeast of Brazil, but because of the altitude, you will find the climate quite pleasant and cool in the winter, especially in the towns to the south like Mucugê, Piatã and the village of Igatú where the temperature can get down to 5 degrees Celsius (40 degrees Fahrenheit). Winter in the Chapada is characterised by the charm of its cafés, bars and restaurants, which serve good quality wines, hot chocolate and the famous “quentão” , a popular alcoholic drink in the Northeast of Brazil that is heated up to cheer up the cool nights. It is the perfect time to get to know and participate in one of the most popular parties of the Brazilian countryside -São João- St John’s day (June 23) where you can see popular culture and tradition together with the festive mood and happiness so typical of the Brazilian people. Enjoy the party at night with the “forró” music and the typical foods that abound at this time. In the day you can take advantage of the refreshing weather and go for an exhilirating hike or do some kind of adventure sport, or stay in town and go to a museum or gallery, or if you like, take a walk around the historic center.
Springtime arrives with all the splendor of the season, filling the trails with all kinds of colorful flowers. Hummingbirds and butterflies abound and create a beautiful and magical scenery. It is the perfect time to check out the orquids and bromeliads of countless varieties.
